One of the best things about working in the music industry is the ability to come across a sea of different genres of music. While my heart holds metalcore and deathcore as the "top tier" genres, you need that diversity in your listening trends. You know what I mean? We love a good chunky breakdown with animal-sounding vocals, but when it is 5 o'clock in the morning and I'm rocking a massive hangover, it really isn't my first choice. Thankfully, I think I came across my next new obsession for those days when I'm feeling something a bit more mellow, calm, and relaxing. That obsession is called funsleep.

funsleep (Nicholas Pigeon) is sure to be taking the music world by calm storm in no time. The artist has just released their first EP, can you dance?, under the name funsleep, and it has been on replay in my home all day. Attempting to find a genre to place the EP and sound in is proving difficult, as it seems to effortlessly blend all the components that make lo-fi, house, and electronic pop great and make it an all-new sound altogether. All three tracks on the EP work together in this format, but also, incredibly, could stand the test of time as individually dropped singles. One of the songs that has caught my attention the most would have to be "used (need someone)" for a plethora of reasons.
The song gives off the vibes that I felt when I first heard Childish Gambino's "Feels Like Summer" back in 2018. It's the type of song that you can play in the background while cleaning the house, having a party, going on a drive, or having on as background noise. The beat and tempo are infectious, the lyrics dance beautifully on each and every note, and there is something about it that words cannot explain that leaves your ears, mind, and body wanting more. If that isn't enough, the music video is beautifully crafted in a DIY fashion that shows that this isn't just a hobby for funsleep, but a want, need, and passion project.
If you've gotten to this point of the article, you should run, not walk, to give this EP a listen because I am sure it is only a matter of time before funsleep becomes a household name in the music world.
