The first Friday of October didn't feel at all like fall in Houston, TX. Houstonians packed it in to White Oak Music Hall's hilled outdoor venue to see indie music at its best with Phantogram and Passion Pit. Bring on the humidity; nothing can keep us from the music we love! On arrival, half the audience was headed to the front, while the other half wandered up the hill to get a larger view of the whole scene as it unfolded.

Holding our various cold beverages, condensation beading on the containers, small chatter died down as the stage lights went up. The duo that is Phantogram, Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter, appeared in the glow of the lights. Starting their set off with "Jealousy," the audience's exuberance collided with the action on stage. Songs like "You Are the Ocean" and "Black Out Days" quickly followed. The encore included "You Don't Get Me High Anymore."

"The show must go on" never rang more true on this night. It seems that Passion Pit members arrived faster than their gear, leaving them to be musicians without instruments and so close to showtime. A call-out on socials brought help... the locals, White Oak, and Phantogram filled in the gaps, and it was "on with the show!" Lead singer Michael Angelakos mixed candid moments with fan favorites such as "Carried Away," "Take A Walk," and "Sleepyhead." Despite the issues with the equipment not arriving, Passion Pit was indeed able to get carried away with the audience and put on a fantastic and intimate set. Houston fans are thankful for nights like this.
