After years of silence, some bands might return to the scene quietly with a cryptic image on social media. Some others might build anticipation with mysterious countdowns. And then, sometimes, a band shocks the world with a surprise song drop. CKY chose the latter. No publicity, no hype — simply a song refusing to be ignored.
Their first song in seven years, “Can’t Stop Running,” released on October 10th. The track is unmistakably CKY at its core. Guitarist/vocalist Chad I. Ginsburg and co-founder/drummer Jess Margera make up the band, strengthened by the addition of Mike Leon on bass, who brings with him the experience from past projects Soulfly, Cavalera, Havok, and Igorrr.
Ginsburg states:
This song has been a favorite of ours since it was written and demoed, and has remained one of our favorites in our catalog. It will be played on tour and we're very proud of it. The video is coming and we couldn't give a shit about anyone who doesn't like it. The rest of the upcoming songs we will be releasing are all over the map — however, this one happens to be one of our favorites. It has the perfect happy/sad feel, and is a progression and growth in writing. This is a song for everyone — not just CKY diehards.
We caught up with Mike Leon recently to chat about joining such an iconic band, all about the track, and what to expect from this new era of CKY.
