I do my best to keep a close eye on what’s new in my corner of the music scene. Of course, it’s impossible to catch every new release, but I try to keep up. There is one music niche, however, that I go a little further out of my way to keep up to date with than the others: jam bands. It’s true; I stalk the forums, I attend every jam band show I can, I even have a special email just to subscribe to jam band newsletters. What can I say? I’m sick. Naturally, there is one band that piques my interest more than any other jam band in the game, and that is Dizgo.
If you don’t know about Dizgo, that’s a major problem that we’re going to fix right now. I may be biased, considering Dizgo is originally from my neck of the woods, but I don’t think I am. Dizgo has put in the work to become one of the greats; they’re constantly either on tour or releasing a new piece of music. Always being on like that, constantly playing and improving, has made the band an absolute juggernaut. No one in the scene today has the tight arrangements, inventive jams, or stage chemistry that Dizgo commands, and yes, that includes the big boys like Phish. They’re quite simply the creme of the crop, and just in time for harvest season, that crop has yielded a new single.

I am embarrassed to admit that, despite all the talk I just did about keeping up to date with jam bands, I'm a few days late to covering “Outer Space.” Alright, maybe I’m not all that embarrassed. The song did just drop three days ago, but I didn’t know about it until this morning. Obviously, the second I saw “Outer Space” in my feed, I rolled out of bed, connected my phone to my loudest Bluetooth speaker, and let the tune begin shaking my walls. I’m not sure how, but Dizgo has once again produced a song that is uniquely them but still fresh and inspired. From the heavy bass lines to the guitar riffs that are smooth as a dolphin's belly to the infectious hand drums that make your heart thump, “Outer Space” is the perfect jam song. It will fit so seamlessly into their act; I can already see myself posted up at the Vogue, dancing around spilling my double shot of rum everywhere as Dizgo lays down this spectacle of jam-funk.
If you’re new to Dizgo, you’re in luck; you have three studio albums and two live albums to indulge in. Personally, I recommend starting with Live in Atlanta; you can’t beat a jam band live album, and this one is choice. Even if you’re someone who has never heard a jam in their life, I implore you to give “Outer Space” a shot. Dizgo is one of the only jam bands today that is universally enjoyed; you can’t even bring up the Dead in a jam discussion without someone giving you a look of disgust anymore, and it’s for a good reason. Dizgo is the top of their class, and this single is them at their best. So, take the time to listen to “Outer Space” now, as in right now. Once you’ve seen what it is I’m gushing about, you’re going to want to catch the band on one of their extensive tours. I guarantee they will be somewhere near you soon.
