Originally formed as a pandemic passion project, Moody Joody, comprising Kaitie Forbes, Kayla Hall, and Andrew Pacheco have been consistently growing and are ones to watch. Many artists, understandably, go through growing pains and phases as they develop and find their niche, but this trio has uniquely known exactly who they are since their beginning. Their reliability has paid off, as they gained significant traction after the release of their debut EP, “Dream Girl”, and performed live at Austin City Limits and as support for A R I Z O N A. As they gear up for a debut album in 2026 and a tour of their own, they’ve dropped their third and final single of the year.
“OOPS!” is a playful start to a new chapter, as it’s the first taste of the energy that will be on their upcoming record. The prominent funk elements are different from their previous releases like “Talk Me Down” and “Bye Bye Baby”, which contain their more familiar, signature shimmer-pop sound. Co-written with hitmaker Scott Harris (Shawn Mendes, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber), who they’ve worked with previously for “Velvet Connection”, it’s an anthem for those wild nights and blurry mornings. There’s a carefree attitude amidst the polished production that really shines, but the song remains grounded in cheeky moments of self-awareness and regret.
The Official Music Video for "OOPS!" by Moody Joody
The lyrical imagery gets reflected on screen in the vintage-inspired music video. In a quiet and unmoving room, Kaitie and Kayla bring all the life and color; they’re there not just for a good time but a great one. With shots of them on top of the bar, in the bathroom, and on a stage, the track ironically ends with exclamation, “I cross my heart / I hope to die / I pinky swear / I’m staying in tonight”, after recounting memories of lemon drops, karaoke fame, and open tabs. And then, in the video, there’s Andrew, unassumingly vacuuming the confetti. Relatable and catchy, its humor is a refreshing take on the loss of inhibitions and being unapologetically authentic in an ever-serious environment.
Art is what will keep us together in uncertain, and often disheartening, times like these. It’s important to have reminders like “OOPS!” to continue having fun, to keep dancing at parties, to find pockets of light. It’s equally essential to have musicians like Moody Joody who aren’t afraid to try new things while staying true to themselves at the core. Safe to say, whatever comes next for them will be exciting and propel them to greater heights.
