Nashville-based band Morning In May is bringing us those summer night bangers early! This four-piece is molding modern rock and 2000s emo to make a fresh sound that's all their own. They are a blast from your scene kid past with their button-ups and casual suspender accessory usage. The swoopy hair, tight black jeans, and sneaker look is one I remember all too well!
Their aesthetic is flashy and neon, while their lyrics are sadder and more raw but veiled in upbeat rhythms and faster-paced lyrics. Morning In May does a good job of having a beautiful and highly blurry line between these conflicting emotions. It's like all the color was drained to inspire the song's concepts and lyrics, but then the color is added back when they all hit the stage.

Aesthetics aside, Morning In May's vibes are all-around impeccable. Their new single "Midnights In Malibu" is both a bittersweet moving-on song and an absolute banger. I honestly didn't expect to like the song as much as I do. The lyrics still portray the bittersweet feelings of going home at the end of the night but will still have you on your feet grooving along to the song. It's upbeat and keeps a steady pace so you don't have time to feel the sadness creeping in.
"Midnight In Malibu" definitely sang for the New Age Pop Punk sound and hit the nail on the head. It feels smooth; the production on this song is really clean and well thought-out. The lyrics are fun and dancy even if the words are more downtrodden. They have the uncanny ability to keep you engaged and in a good mood with their music.
The music video switches between scenes of them being goofy in an office building and performing in a room lit up in different colors. All four of the members were wearing black button-ups, black skinny jeans, sneakers of some sort, dark fashion shades, and, of course, highlighter-pink suspenders. Think "King For A Day," but if it had been a Cobra Starship music video instead of a Pierce The Veil video. It's a vibe I really love—goofy, but polished.
Releasing "Midnights in Malibu" was not the only feat Morning In May has had this year already as well. They will be joining Red Jumpsuit Apparatus as support on their tour. It's the perfect lineup, sound and aesthetics-wise!
