Last Wednesday, British pop-punk legends Neck Deep released their brand-new single, “You Should See Me Now." The single is the first release since the band’s self-titled LP back in 2024 and, like many other Neck Deep songs, is able to balance an introspective, emotional experience while still delivering a fun instrumental sound.

The new song as a whole has a very uplifting message, tackling issues such as doubt, longing, and persevering through the hardships that life throws at you. The lyrics describe some of the challenges that singer Ben Barlow has experienced over the years and how he has emerged from them stronger and triumphant in the end. The emotional intensity of the song creates a very powerful motivation for the listener, in my opinion. Facing challenges and uncertainties in life is unavoidable, but most people are stronger than they realize. At the end of the day, it just matters that you get back up after getting knocked down, and sooner or later, the hard work will pay off.
The instrumentation on this track is stripped back a bit compared to the band’s usual fast, balls to the walls energy, but it lays the mood for the lyrics and message of the song perfectly. The guitars still have the upbeat pop-punk energy that we know and love, and the vivacity of the instruments kicks up during the bridge, helping to punctuate the lyrics' message. “Good things come to those who persevere, and it takes blood, sweat, distance, and tears / No excuses, no fear.”
It is unclear whether this single was released as a standalone track or if it is the first single off of a possible upcoming album release, but either way, it is a great treat for Neck Deep fans eagerly awaiting new music. Fans will have many opportunities to hear this new track live this year as well, as the band will be making appearances in multiple countries in the EU through the beginning of June as a part of Slam Dunk Festival. The band will also be touring North America this fall with fellow pop punk legends The Story So Far. Don’t miss your chance to hear “You Should See Me Now” this year!
