Earlier this year in February, a band caused mass speculation after it was announced as a part of the lineup for Download Fest. Fans quickly took to the internet to share speculation as to who this new band President could be. Seemingly coming out of nowhere and with no songs to their name, there was plenty of fan theories going around as to who this mystery band could be. On Thursday, May 15th, President dropped their first song and music video and the case cracked wide open.
The opening of the song begins slowly, with some light guitar strumming of some low notes. While the beginning is slow, it sets the tone for a dark, uncertain mood. Shortly into the song, the lead singer screams, once again setting the tone.
Once he starts singing, just ten seconds later, the vocals are much lighter, with a slight distortion to them. The vocals throughout the first verse are all soft, as the singer sings about losing hope and feeling hopeless.
As the song progresses to the chorus, it begins to get heavier, with screams scattered into the song as they switch between clean and heavy vocals.
Once the bridge hits, there is just a man speaking, stating, "Who is Jesus Christ?/He is the true lamb of sacrifice/Father". After this, there is a pretty sick breakdown and the singer screams once more. To close out the song, all the instruments fade out and you just hear the singer harmonizing with someone else, stating, "Oh Father, I can't hear you yet" in a cappella. It almost feels like a build-up to something bigger coming.
This song is one of the catchiest metal songs to drop all year. This song will be your next ear worm, and it will not leave your head for days on end, but in the best way possible. President is creating something new while also staying within the formula of metalcore, and people are not mad about it; it has already received rave reviews.
Within the music video, you never see the singer's face, as he wears a mask the entire time. Some sleuths have already figured out who he is, based on past bands he has been a part of. However, the mystery element is still a great part of the band, so let's try and keep it that way. While the mask is creepy, it adds to their production element. It is clear that their mystery presence has already brought people to this band, as they already have over 100 thousand monthly listeners.
The band has shared on social media that this is only the beginning, that there is new music on the horizon. While President is already receiving massive amounts of hype surrounding their hidden identity, now is the time to follow them so you can say that you were here from the beginning.
