Putting It All On Red With Red Leather

Whoever told you to bet on black was incorrect. What is life without any risk, when you could just bet on Red (Leather)?

A Reno native donned with a fringed leather jacket and a unique leather hat brimmed with long tassels took the stage in HI-FI Indianapolis. Who is this mysterious cowboy rolling in? His name is Red Leather.

Red Leather's identity is a mystery, but his vocals are recognizable, shining with pure electricity and cutting with deep rawness. His lyrics speak for themselves and resonate at a depth that most can feel within their soul, singing songs of addiction struggles, grief, and overcoming.

His stylized genre could be defined in the industry as alternative rock and country rock. However, there are many creative notes within his music that make his western sound incredibly distinct from other artists. Whether that be the guitar riffs in “Bury Me In Vegas” or the brain-scratching sound of his vocals in “DEATHWISH,” both songs call back to his debut album from 2023, Reno.

He released his latest single, “WISH YOU WERE HERE (FAR AWAY),” on August 22nd, 2025. TikTok grabbed hold of the song, and many were creating posts. Ranging in various topics, some posted about their loved ones, friends, and pets. A girl posted about her friend who had just graduated and how much they missed them. A boy posted about how much he misses his childhood dog. Another posting about missing their grandfather. Another posted about the multi-hour distance from their family while they are at college. The song touches the hearts and feelings of many.

The audience, of all ages, was dressed in red and black for the Put It All On Red Tour. Tasseled-brimmed hats and leather jackets were in fashion that night.

Ethan Gander started the show at 9 pm that Saturday night. He is an alternative indie rock artist with powerful vocals, drawing the attention of many in the room. “Power,” “Don’t Waste My Time,” and “Aphrodite” were just some of the notable songs on his set list. An incredible choice for an opener for Red Leather, as his music translated well with the audience.

The show opened up with the song “El Dorado.” The lights begin to dim, and the crowd roars. A video played on stage. He was pictured as a cowboy, riding horses, hopping on a steam train, and participating in a gun duel. The crowd amplified in excitement before he walked on, chanting “RED! RED! RED!”

“INDIANAPOLIS! ARE YOU READY?”

Red Leather sauntered onto the stage, and the other band members followed suit. The band members were wearing a similar outfit motif as the singer, wearing leather jackets and bandanas around their necks. Starting off with the songs “DEATHWISH” and “UNSTOPPABLE,” the crowd buzzed with excitement. Feeding off the lead singer’s energy, movements on the stage, and motioning to the crowd to sing or clap along with him. The complex guitar solos in “UNSTOPPABLE” shocked and amazed the crowd.

During a break between the songs, Red Leather announced that Indianapolis “is going to be one of the biggest shows of the whole f*cking tour,” adding that even though he had to reschedule the date, the original date being June 21, 2025, he would come back for his fanbase in Indiana and thanked everyone for being there with him. He dove deeper with the crowd, sharing an emotional branch of information, announcing that he is 1,339 days sober. A person then shouted that they were proud of him from the crowd. He talked about how much his life had changed from that one life-changing moment to where he is today—a headliner on his very own tour. His message to those that are going through rough times: “Keep f*cking going, I promise you that you will make it through.”

The night continued with the crowd singing each song with passion, word-for-word. Red Leather never skipped a beat to get the crowd involved in some way in his songs. I still get chills from “CAN'T GET HIGH” and “BONNIE AND CLYDE” as the crowd was screaming at the top of their lungs to the lyrics in a cappella. The moment is replaying constantly in my head, curing the post-concert blues.
