On July 15, 2025, Shakey Graves, supported by Hovvdy, brought the And The War Came Tenth Anniversary tour to Union Transfer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Hailing from Austin, Texas, indie pop duo Hovvdy took the stage to greet an already anticipatory crowd. The duo, consisting of Charlie Martin and Will Taylor, played a full acoustic set, giving the crowd their favorites, including their 2023 single “Portrait.” Hovvdy created a chill but excited atmosphere to begin the night, consistently hyping up the crowd for Shakey Graves’ appearance.

Following Hovvdy’s set, Union Transfer saw its floor packed with fans, with excitement growing stronger as instruments and props were set up on stage, including Shakey Graves’ iconic suitcase kick drum.

Not long after, Shakey Graves took to the stage with his full band and wife, Stephanie “Buffalo” Hunt. Shakey’s performance started off strong with “Only Son” from the tour’s celebratory album, And The War Came. Without a doubt, this show’s crowd had some of the best energy I’ve seen to date.

Several songs, including “Roll the Bones,” were performed solo, incorporating Shakey’s infamous suitcase kick drum. Each solo felt personal, as if every word made a connection to everyone in the room.

Following the opening of his set, Shakey performed several songs in duet with Buffalo Hunt, including “Ready or Not,” originally performed with Sierra Ferrell, and “Unknown Legend,” released by Neil Young in 1992. The chemistry and love between Buffalo Hunt and Shakey Graves was endearing and undeniable and added an extra sense of magic to the performance.

In between songs, Shakey made sure that his connection with the audience was never lost. From telling stories of his early days in his career to doting on his wife and daughter, it felt like he wasn’t just performing—he was having a conversation with each and every member of the crowd.

To top off the night, Shakey, along with his full band and Buffalo Hunt, performed an electric version of “Deeply Departed.” Every member of the band was beaming, dancing, and invested in the energy. With the close of Deeply Departed, Shakey Graves and Buffalo Hunt waved a sincere and grateful goodnight, and it was an unforgettable end to an unforgettable show.
