New York-based band Some Days Are Darker mixes traditional Goth Rock sounds and cinema and drowns it in brooding vibes and lyrics to create an aesthetic that all-around encompasses the band. Frontman Leer Mason's vocals are melodic; together with the instrumentals, the songs are full and leave you wanting to hit replay and go to their next song at the same time.

Just in 2025 alone, Some Days Are Darker dropped their three newest singles, "Obsession(Die For You)," "Devotion," and most recently, "Take Me Anywhere." All after releasing a nine-track album in November of 2024. These guys have been hard at work writing and bringing music to life with a pattern of multiple releases each year since 2022. Hell, this year they will also be rereleasing their last album, "TV-MA," on vinyl, and I know I will personally be adding this album to my vinyl collection!

The band's 80s goth revival concept is a branding move that fully envelopes the band's presence, from their fashion choices to their sound vibes; they have aced it all. They have a genuine feel to their aesthetic; it's not just an act or marketing move. It's authentic to who the members are. Their lyrics come off just as authentic alongside the emotive but calming vocals.

If you aren't sold yet, their live performance energy makes you feel like you are in a movie watching a rock band play in an 80s movie. I can find myself imagining them playing in one of the boardwalk scenes in The Lost Boys. However, you don't have to imagine them on tour! After joining the foundational German post-punk/darkwave band Pink Turns Blue on their East Coast tour at the end of last year, they are headed back for more!

Pink Turns Blue is far from the only large collaboration they have fostered too. In fact, while recording their newest album, they flew out to Joshua Tree, California, to record at the famous studio Rancho De La Luna with Dave Catching, who has also worked with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal.

Their branding, music, and visuals all make them the perfect band to play a song in your next favorite vampire, dark Victorian love story, or horror movie, and much, much more! With their songs being slow and softly melodic and quite often deeply romantic, they have cemented themselves as an up-and-coming goth band that hits all your needs. The older goth rock vibes bring back a nostalgia that can be hard to summon, but I am starting to think there isn't anything they can't pull off.

Their newest single, "Take Me Anywhere," is addictive if you love dark, brooding love songs that will have you grooving and crying at the same time. This song feels like it's straight out of a scene from The Crow or even, and hear me out, the Dexter series, as they have a very different but similar vibe to Princess Goes, which is Michael C. Hall's band and might be a personal favorite TV show. This single is actually one of my favorites out of their work so far! This band is made for sync, so let's boost them till they are in our next favorite movie or show!

With a large amount of achievements already under their wings, Some Days Are Darker can only go up from here! These concrete jungle vampires are here to stay and here to take over! From the music, aesthetics, and overall branding of this band, they are built solid. Some Days Are Darker has me holding my breath as I wait for more. They have made it to all my playlists on repeat since learning about them! I highly suggest, with elbowing and peer pressure, that you check them out!
