This week, Spacey Jane brought their energetic performance to The Metro in Chicago, IL. The Australian indie rock band launched their North American tour supporting their latest album, “If That Makes Sense,” earlier this month. Following the rapid sell-out of tickets for the first night, an additional show was scheduled for the following evening.

For night one at the Metro, the Belair Lip Bombs opened for Spacey Jane. Drummer Daniel Devlin expressed his gratitude to the band for inviting them to be part of their first-ever North American tour. Sharing a similar energetic, danceable vibe to Spacey Jane, the audience danced along to every song.

Lead singer Caleb Harper and drummer Kieran Lama met in high school and made music together before forming Spacey Jane. In 2016, Kieran met Ashton Hardman-Le Cornu, now the lead guitarist, and Ashton connected with Amelia Murray, the former bassist, marking the beginning of Spacey Jane

In 2019, Amelia announced her decision to step away from the band to pursue a career in the medical field, and Peppa Lane joined as Spacey Jane’s bassist. Shortly after, the band signed with AWAL and announced their debut studio album, "Sunlight." Following the success of both albums, "Sunlight" and "If That Makes Sense," the band is back on the road for their second North American tour.

When Spacey Jane plays on stage, they do not hide how much fun they are having. Their performance is a guaranteed blast. From members jumping around the stage (and over each other), to dancing and interacting with the audience, there wasn't a dull moment.

The band played popular favorites like "Booster Seat," "Through My Teeth," and "Whateverrrr," along with the debut EP "Feeding the Family"set list addition, “Yet.” Every song was responded to with pure excitement from the audience.

It was clear fans weren't ready for the show to end, and neither was I. The venue immediately filled with screams and cheers for an encore. When Spacey Jane returned to the stage, the excitement continued. The night wrapped up with “Lots of Nothing” and a whole lot of joyful singing from the audience.

With half of the tour left, I can not suggest going to a show enough. Spacey Jane is a blast to watch, and their lively, feel-good energy is truly contagious.

See Spacey Jane live.
