Right away I have a problem with this band called Surfaced from Oldham County, Kentucky. Well, that problem isn't really with the band itself but with myself and how long it took me to discover them because damn... this band is chaotic, heavy, raw, and all-around everything I look for in an artist. Their new EP, Where Angels Fear to Tread, is slated to come out soon, and I am sure it is going to be one of the best releases of the year that will skyrocket Surfaced into a household name.

Incorporating concepts from metalcore, deathcore, death metal, and who knows what else, this band dives into grief, confusion, rage, and the wreckage that drags us under throughout this release. Right away, the listener can realize just how intense Surfaced can be. I mean, come on, the first song, "Wasted in Hatred", opens with an intense breakdown and doesn't slow down once the entire time.
Or how about "Safe In The Presence of Evil"? You'd be lying to yourself if you tried to convince me this song wouldn't erupt the crowd into a circle pit straight from Hell itself. Especially when that last breakdown hits? Oh man. Talk about an absolute face slapper of a breakdown.
My favorite has to be their most recent release: "A Petal Of Ash." Not only is it an all-around heavy-ass track, but the accompanying music video directed by Errik Easterday shows the absolute chaos the band is capable of. Vocalist JP Kaine states how:
“This song is about panic attacks and how often they happen when you least expect it. I deal with anxiety every day, making me scatter-brained and thoughtless.”
All I know is this. I want to see just where this ferocity, this insanity, and this pure raw talent are going to be able to take this band. With the help and guidance of 1126 Records, with whom the band states, "It's refreshing to work with people who actually give a shit," I am sure it will only be a matter of time before this is the world's next biggest band. They are exactly what the music scene is lacking and will serve it up on a silver platter for all to enjoy.
