Summertime is right around the corner, and Save Ferris’ new single “Get Dancing” arrived at the perfect time for it. So roll down those windows, put on those shades, and join the good vibes this band brings time and time again.

From Southern California, Save Ferris has been heavy in the scene since the mid-'90s. Thanks to their infectious sound blending the styles of ska, punk, and pop, Save Ferris catapulted this lively and upbeat genre to the mainstream. That wouldn’t have been possible without amazing front-woman Monique Powell, who continues to offer her unmistakable vocals to our ears, which haven’t changed since the 90s. She truly makes her mark as a powerhouse once again with this single.

“Get Dancing” is a textbook ska song that hits all the marks in my books. The intro greets us with a guitar riff that perfectly sets that go-easy feel we will carry with us for the entire song. Then, of course, the horns that are a staple to the band enter in as beautifully as ever. I have to highlight how well mixed this song is. The horns don’t overpower your senses too hard, to where it ruins the message the song is trying to convey. That is one of my favorite things about Save Ferris is how well they can mash so many instruments together without being a sensory overload to one's ears.

The lyrics and the groove are so obviously the main focus of this single, and the mixing job echoes that. This is truly one of those songs that, when you put it on, the brain turns off and the stress of everyday life rolls off of you. It just makes you dance.

Another thing I love about this song is the music video and choreography. The music video consists of Monique dancing through the Venice Beach boardwalk, spreading good vibes and a good message with everyone around. What is more summertime than California boardwalks?

You can visibly see how much fun it was to film for everyone involved. Adding that fun, carefree tone, the backup dancers consisted of fans who answered the call by Save Ferris to learn the moves and join them in the iconic Cali spot. Of course, dancing with a band you love will make production that much more important. The best part? The moves are easy enough for any beginner to learn. So grab a friend and spend an afternoon learning it! Trust me, you won’t regret it.

I have been a ska fan for over four years now, but through all those years, Save Ferris has barely been mentioned in conversations about the genre. That needs to change and now is the perfect time for it. If anyone wants to get into this genre with an easy band to like, Save Ferris is a perfect introduction. I can only hope more people will recognize the talent they hold. With the release of this single and the tour they are currently on, I encourage anyone who reads this to look into this band and hopefully fall headfirst in love with it and the genre as I have.
