Cat got your tongue, or are you just tongue-tied? I had the privilege of meeting up with Art-Rock band Tongue Tied before their second show of their 4-day tour at Orlando's favorite local venue, Will's Pub. The group released an album in August of last year entitled Point of No Return, showcasing an emo fusion, creating and blending an ethereal rock sound like you've never heard before. Tongue Tied is a four-piece group, Alex on vocals, Danny on guitar, Erick on drums, and Sirena on bass. Each member is authentically themselves, musically talented, and has an aesthetic stage presence, creating the ultimate band.
Msm: What is your go-to Karaoke song?
Sirena: I got a feeling by the Black Eyed Peas, especially when the Fergie verse comes on, it's over!
Alex: Sorry for Party Rocking by LMFAO
Erick: What a Fool Believes by the Doobie Brothers.
Danny: I pick 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago
Msm: How has the South Florida music scene been?
Alex: It low-key died after the pandemic, but it's been going up
Sirena: Specifically, Miami.
Alex: A lot of venues definitely have closed, but the ones that stayed open for the scene are doing wonders. We are not in the crazy scenes like hardcore, but we do be playing these shows and they do be going crazy. People show up, and it's really fun.
Danny: There's a lot more DIY stuff happening, which is cool. It's a community.
Msm: What is your earliest music memory?
Erick: My parents bought me a junior drumset when I was like two years old, and I guess years later, I'm still doing it.
Msm: What inspired the name Tongue Tied?
Danny: We were sitting in the garage one day, and we were like, We need a name. We thought of a bunch of names, and that's the one we picked.
Erick: We were tongue-tied on this idea
Alex: That's not at all why. We all felt very nervous, we were all nervous kids. We didn't really know what to say sometimes, so it just felt like Tongue Tied fit. We were gonna be Lackadaisical
Danny: That was Eric's Idea, and I hated it
Msm: What is more important, the lyrics or the sound?
All together: Equal
Alex: The sound goes with the lyrics
Msm: If you could open for any artist, who would it be?
Sirena: MARS VOLTA
Alex: MCR
Msm: Any underrated artists you're listening to right now?
Alex: from our scene we have Iliad, Disputer, Vivid, Dime, Bloom Dream
Sirena: Gravess is cool too!
Alex: 47 Bandit, Big Child. There are really so many, it's crazy in Miami, everyone is so awesome, and makes delicious music
Erick: not underrated but one people need to get onto is Vara- Crazy ass jazz, a Chilean dude that does crazy ass guitar.
Msm: If your music were a color, what color would it be?
All together: Purple!
Sirena: I have a mental reason for this. If a tongue is tied, the circulation will be messed up, so it gets purple.
Msm: What advice would you give your younger self?
Danny: Don’t be so hard on yourself
Sirena: Just play what you like, literally, I spent too much time playing what I didn't like.
Alex: Stop being a pussy!!
Erick: Same, Don’t be fucking scared and dont be stupid
Msm: What is in the future for Tongue Tied?
