After about a month and a half on the road, The Maine closed out their "I Love You... But I Chose The Maine" tour in Dallas, TX. While an emotional night due to it being the last on this North American part of the tour, the vibes from The Maine and fellow tour mates, Nightly, Grayscale, and Moody Joody remained high and full of adrenaline.

Moody Joody started off the night, opening with their upbeat song “Talk Me Down.” The three-piece pop band’s performance was nothing short of lively and whimsical. While only playing a seven-song set, the band was able to quickly capture the attention of the crowd, and by their final song “Little Blue House,” the majority of women in the audience were swaying along to the beat. The band’s onstage chemistry was great, and vocalists Kaitie Forbes and Kayla Hall really stole the show with their harmonies.

Next up was Grayscale. I’m honestly shocked that this was my first time seeing the band. I feel like it’s just one of those things where I’ve never been in the right place at the right time. But the long wait was definitely worth it. The band’s performance was electric and had the whole crowd jumping up and down throughout the set. Grayscale’s songs are the perfect balance between pop and rock music, with all of the upbeat catchiness of a pop hit with just the right amount of edge and grit to make it unique. The band ended the night with “Not Afraid to Die,” one of their newest songs, with a loud and lengthy applause from the fans.

Up next on the bill was pop band Nightly. Similar to Moody Joody, the band leaned in a more pop alternative vibe and offered fans a ten-song set filled with songs from their two most recent albums. The performance was a nice contrast to Grayscale’s energetic set and took on a more slow and intimate route with the music style. I could tell there were many Nightly fans in the house that night because of the volume at which the fans were singing along to the lyrics, especially for the closing song “hate my favorite band,” ending the band's set on a high note.

Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for. The Maine band members stepped out onto the stage with the overhead lights flashing all different kinds of colors as the band kicked off with “Thoughts I Have While Lying in Bed.” Even after just one song, the vibes in the venue were already starting to skyrocket. The band and fans fed off of each other's energy the whole night, and it made for a really entertaining performance. The show was exceptionally impressive because a few songs in, we found out that lead singer John O’Callaghan was suffering from a broken rib. Without him mentioning it, I would have never known. He still put on a very enthusiastic and exciting performance both physically and vocally, which I know must not have been an easy feat. After over a decade of listening to their music, it was so exciting to finally get to hear his vocals live for the first time.

The band played many songs off of their new album "Joy Next Door" while honoring their older fans with classics such as “We All Roll Along” and my personal favorite, “Loved You a Little.” The interactions between the band and the crowd were very heartwarming as John thanked everyone for coming out and for supporting them for all these years. The Maine ended their "I Love You... But I Chose The Maine" tour with fan favorite “Black Butterflies and Déjà Vu,” which had the crowd roaring with joy and marked a memorable end to a fantastic tour.

While the North American portion of the tour has come to an end, there will still be other opportunities for fans to catch The Maine this year. They will be playing a handful of festivals here in the States this summer, followed by a short headlining tour in Europe this September. If you haven’t seen them already, you should get your tickets now and make sure to check out their recently released album "Joy Next Door" if you’re in for a fun time.
