Alternative rock band Massfear is taking the alt-rock scene by storm. From the suburbs of New Jersey, Massfear emerged, crafting songs that blend emotional alternative rock with melodic values and heavy elements to create a notable sound and amassing over 200,000 listeners in their first year alone.
Their latest single, "Only Silence," is an emotionally provocative song from the lyrics to its composition. Their ability to portray the feelings they want to be felt through the song is spot on—using vocals, instrumentals, and the removal of one or the other to emphasize parts that will hit harder—is a craft that they have perfected.

The vocalist, Ryan, sways from soft, more melodic sing-song vibes to harsh vocals through the song without faltering, allowing the instrumentals to build with him, not just around him. Together, the band feels all-around cohesive. They know how to work together to create an experience through song.
Many of us can personally relate to and recall the feeling of lyrics like "I've been waiting for your call back, Only silence in the pitch black, Got me feeling like a car crash" and "When I got back home, It felt forever cold, Opened every door and hoped for ghosts." I think a lot of us have been there and done that with some situation or person in our lives, especially in the current era of technology. Even if you look at it less from the phone standpoint and outside of ghosting in romantic relationships, "Only Silence" catches the feeling of screaming for someone to care or come back when they just won't, can't, or don't want to. It's an emotionally malleable song, adding even more depth to it.
The lyric video for "Only Silence" is sleek without being too much. You have visuals of the band playing in a room with a blue and black filter overlay that doesn't clutter the visual space. The words are easy to see and go at a pace that allows you to learn the words without speed-running the process. It's a great way to show the band while still being a lyric video first and foremost.
This is a band that, honestly, I have fallen in love with this year as a huge fan of heavy genres, being melodic and atmospheric in nature. The first song I heard by them was "Erase My Mind," and I've been following them ever since! Their sound doesn't make you compromise heavily for the calm parts; they balance out well, which can be a difficult art to make flow seamlessly.
Massfear is currently an up-and-coming band with big, lethal talent and personality. I am hoping to see them land some great collabs in the future for shows and songs! They are on the climb and have a sound that is built to take them far! I am really excited for this band and what they have going on!
