Pure anger, in its rarest form, is as destructive as it is cleansing. The purging of one's suffering through aggression has always been seen as cathartic, just, and most of all truthful. Through VanillaVoid, their wrath will be righteous. Residing in Tehran, Iran, the anonymous VanillaVoid adapts the shaking of hands between metal's teeth-armed instrumentation and dark trap's gloomy beats and samples, inspired by the likes of ScarLxrd, NF, CorpseHusband and Nu-Metal giants Linkin Park and Korn. VanillaVoid gathers music's more aggressive materials and proceeds to build- and be damned, for they have come.
Produced by BlackFire Productions, the debut single "RAGE!" is the anthem to 'enough is enough'. Crisp beats, samples, and high-tuned melodies are tethered by downtuned guitars and drums, with fast-delivered rapping while a rage-filled chorus chant dogpiles on top of it. Released just a mere two weeks ago, the track has miraculously climbed to thousands of streams and listens, a rarity for an underground artist's first debut. Genre mixing is not a new revolution, but when artists cross the wires and entangle them just right, the art takes on a life of its own. Accompanied by an anime-inspired visual lyric video by Hamoon Moradiyan of VisualBladesStudio, "RAGE!" sets itself up as a welcomed addition in the Trap-Metal genre.

The track opens with high-pitched melodies over a distorted sample, before quickly expanding into a harsh vocal chanting "RAGE! RAGE!" fueled chorus alongside drop-tuned guitar chugs and bends. There is no settling in for this one- we're dumped straight into the meatgrinder. The single's recurring chorus is as catchy as it is direct, with VanillaVoid commanding the lashing out against their opposition as they go down the names on their hit list.
The metal-inspired chorus diminishes and bleeds into trap-inspired melodies and 808s during the verses, with Void's rapping levitating between slower, pitch-shifting forms before stepping on the gas to deliver faster, more lyricist-style flows. What's unique is the blending of several genres within Hip-Hop, as seen with artists like Bones, Night Lovell, and Killstation, where the vocal cadence is slower, drawn out, and more groove-based. In opposition to the more aggressive names of ScarLxrd, Logic, and NF, the cadence becomes more rapid, on the offensive, and without breathing room. VanillaVoid finds themselves in between both, flow-switching and pitch-shifting their rhythms seamlessly, but retaining angst amongst both worlds.

When asked about the debut, VanillaVoid stated,
I wrote "RAGE!" in 2023. I'm a very, very angry person, and I wrote it as a message to everyone who's attempted to hold me and put me down. Family, the haters on social media. At the time, I was in a toxic relationship with a producer who was supposed to produce my music, but never did. I wasn't allowed to do anything for over 3 years, except write songs. The message is to release your rage; my writing is cathartic, and I wrote it with the full intent to have crowd chants during the track.
The track speaks for itself: the nervous system in our bodies is geared towards fairness- where, if an injustice is inflicted upon us and if left without equal punishment for the inflictor, the brain will fire off neurons of anger and wrath until the conflict is correctly resolved. Trap-Metal harbors this trait easily, with Hip-Hop's knack for stepping on the throats of those who cross us, and Metal's biodome of aggression that lashes out against societal injustice in the form of fucking assaulting one another in a public setting.
Following the verses that bring VanillaVoid's inflcitors to their damn knees- the bridge introduces several call-and-response crowd chants. Void criticizes their haters as snakes, hollow, and without purpose, while a crowd is heard yelling such lines back one after the other. The uniqueness of crowd vocals is that it allows a backdrop of mob mentality. A call to arms, a rally, a 'We Are Legion' moment. We as people enjoy an 'us vs them' belief system; someone has done us wrong in some way, and someone has to pay for it. Our name is VanillaVoid, for we are many.

The accompanying music video by Hamoon Moradiyan of VisualBladesStudio is as mesmerizing as it is violent. Utilizing clips of several popular anime such as Dragon Ball Z, Death Note, Hellsing, and Chainsaw Man- the visual lyric video is macabre, featuring the animations' more violent moments. During the crimson red visuals, we witness bloodbaths, the loss of limbs, life, and hope. There's a growing use of anime in modern music's repertoire, between merch and visuals, simply for its no-holds-barred violence but also for its honest storytelling. These characters and their abilities may be exaggerated, but the grief, rage, and responses to the world they provide are as flesh and bone as you and I. The visual lyric video is fitting in its angst and emotion, but it's very appealing to look at if you're like me and take your art with drips of absolute violence.
VanillaVoid taps into a vein of Trap-Metal that balances both genres without outshining the other. Seen as early as the 90s up to the present day with Limp Bizkit, Body Count, Tech N9ne, and ScarLxrd, artists like this are musical chemists. Dosing their love for Hip-Hop and Metal in an atmosphere that utilizes not just bludgeoning instrumentals, but the vocalist also being as, if not more, merciless. Shifting between rapid-fire lyrics, harsh vocals, and grooving vocal cadences, Void is a welcomed artist armed to the teeth in the Trap-Metal genre. As the first debut release for an artist, "RAGE!" quickly is gaining online attraction, and is already climbing its own ladder, and VanillaVoid will climb up it on the very backs of their enemies.
