Do you love a good trio brought together by music itself? We were just blessed by SFINX, the cat-faced masked drummer, featuring Grant Dawson, solo artist and producer, and Michael Bohn, the vocalist of Issues. On the 23rd of September, they graced us with the release of their collab single, "Tragic."
While SFINX has done some mean collabs over his time on the scene, "Tragic" is one of my personal favorites so far. This song was so well done, from the production to the transition between the clean and harsh vocals. Some parts in the chorus even hit a more melodic twinge before Bohn comes slamming back in. SFINX really ties it all together by being able to match the lighter and heavier moments while making the transitions between the two of them.
"Tragic" addresses the heavy topic of mental health. With lyrics like "Give me love, give me something I can feel / I'm not enough, and I never was at all / Now I'm on the edge of breaking / It's isolating" and "Never really knew that you had it / Going up in smoke, it's tragic / I can't wait for you / I'm sitting in silence," this track is a beautifully done piece on what it's like to have to leave someone that wasn't good for you. Diving into the feelings that come from needing to go but wanting to stay, this track is a great representation of that inner turmoil.
This song would honestly be killer in some movies or shows, especially in scenes where the characters are dealing with relationship issues. Seeing it played live would be a great experience, too. It feels like one of those songs that really seals the moment, especially when the scene is set right for it in media or on the stage.
I can see this single really taking off and doing well in the alternative scene, and I do hope that I see it get going! With all three of the talented artists on this track together, I don't see why it wouldn't.
Between the choking riffs, the heavy-hitting drum playing, synths in combination with the riveting dual vocals, this track feels full and well-rounded. It's satisfying and still leaves you wanting more, much like most songs that SFINX puts out. He's also the king of the best collabs.
I am looking forward to the next collab or even solo song from SFINX. All in all, I believe this track is one that is probably one of my top releases of the year, too! It's one that not only strikes home, but is one that I hope to experience live as well. I know for sure it's made its way onto a couple of my playlists; you all should do the same!
