There’s a lot of buzz around Colorblind right now. These dreamcore pioneers have been touring relentlessly and leaving their mark everywhere they go. They have already shared the stage with heavyweights like Dayseeker, Honey Revenge, and Caskets, and they are currently on tour with Blessthefall.
We recently got to chat with vocalist Travis Moseley about the album, "Who Sold You This Truth," their growth, what success means to them, and more!
MSM: "Who Sold You This Truth" is such a strong title — what’s the story or meaning behind it?
Travis: "Who Sold You This Truth" means a lot to me, but I can’t give away the full meaning until Part 2 of the album is out!
How does this EP represent where Colorblind is musically and emotionally right now compared to your earlier releases?
I think that Colorblind has so many different moving parts when it comes to our sound, but this EP feels like we’ve refined all of those things.
Were there any songs on the EP that came together surprisingly easily, or ones that challenged you the most?
"God Complex" felt like it just fell out of the sky into our hands. On the other hand, there’s a song on the upcoming album called "Royal Blood," that we tried a few different choruses for, but we eventually found one that felt right.
If fans could only take away one message or feeling from this EP, what would you want it to be?
So, this technically isn’t an EP - it’s part 1 of an entire album. So, I can’t quite give that away until the full album is released.
What inspirations (musical or non-musical) shaped the writing and recording of this EP?
While we were writing these songs, we would put on liminal horror / dreamcore edits on YouTube, and we felt like that definitely found its way into the songs.
You’ve already toured with bands like Dayseeker, Honey Revenge, and Caskets, and now you’re about to hit the road with Blessthefall. How have those experiences shaped you as performers?
The repetition that touring gives you massively changes you as a performer and singer. Watching the other bands that we’ve toured with has been so cool, just watching how they control the crowd and relate to their fans. It’s been super cool to get an inside look on that every night.
Is there a particular tour moment that stands out to you as a “we’ve made it” kind of feeling?
The other day we played Louder Than Life Festival and we played in front of a massive crowd. I was sure that the majority of the crowd wasn’t actually there to see us, because it’s a festival and we could have just caught them in passing - but that crowd was singing so loud and every word to the songs. It was really cool.
What role has your fan community played in your growth and motivation so far?
Getting to see our songs take on new meaning in different people’s lives is such a cool thing to see. It’s such a special thing hearing about how our songs helped people through a tough time. That's what we are here for.
Many bands in your scene talk about the importance of mental health, has that been a topic in your creative or touring life?
Yeah, we’ve definitely touched on this topic in songs. Talking to my partner and my family, as well as keeping up with everything at home always keeps me grounded on the road.
