Mixing the new with the old to create an emotionally charged song with a collab that feels meant to be, In Memory is taking on the metalcore scene with their new single "One Dream Away."

In Memory is a metalcore band from North Carolina whose sound brings back that 2010s metalcore sound with new wave twists. With emotionally driven riffs and lyrics and alternating harsh and clean vocals, In Memory is a solid band in their genre. Having established themselves in 2025, they are working to get their music out there, and I am personally here for that mission.

Currently, In Memory has a back catalog that includes the "This Place is Real" EP and now its follow-up single, "One Dream Away."

"One Dream Away" is a heavy-hitting single. With dual harsh vocals and cleans, In Memory knows how to do their vocal layering. This song is also really accessible in the fact that the harsh vocals still come out well-annunciated and clear to understand. You can feel the emotions in the lyrics even in the harshness; it's not just one-dimensional screams that come off angry no matter the inflection of the lyrics.

The instrumentals are heavy and match the feel of the emotions and not just the tempo of the song and play to the tone of the harshness, which I think is something a lot of emotional metalcore bands miss on, using the instrumentals as inflection for the emotions in the song. They really nail the tone of the song in general.

Let's talk about this collab really quickly, too! I love a good collab, but especially when it's not just a fun fit, but one that actually feels like it is an extension of the band for the duration of the song. Think Snoop Dogg and Katy Perry in "California Girls"; that was fun, but it wasn't a good collab, honestly. The song can exist without Snoop. But for "One Dream Away," it feels like Tyler Small (of Saving Vice) was as essential to this song as any of the In Memory band members themselves. It was a great fit for the song and to jive with the band's overall feel as well.

The artwork for the cover and the photoshoot matching the artwork color scheme honestly adds to this band's appeal. They understand branding, and as a branding nerd, I really appreciate details like this. I can't wait to see how they refine their brand and style over time, too. While it is well done already, these things always get better over time when you have bands that focus on them.

In Memory is built with artistic intent, and that is a really great thing to have on your band resume. With the music scene being so flooded, having something that sets you apart is extremely important, and being able to hold a cohesive brand is a huge way for the audience to distinguish you from bands on the scene.

I see a lot of potential in In Memory. They might be a newer band on the metalcore scene, but with what they are putting out already, they have me excited to hear what they have in store for us in the future and to see how the visuals to their sound become a bigger part of the band. Overall, I am really happy to find out about In Memory and will be watching them grow!
