It’s always a great day for me when Marmozets drops a new song. Last Friday, the band released the single and music video for “Cut Back,” their 5th single off of their highly anticipated comeback album, which is set to drop next month. And just like the singles that came before it, “Cut Back” shows fans just how talented and exciting this new record is about to be.

If there’s one thing that Marmozets have always been good at, it’s making a catchy hook. The intro to “Cut Back” starts the listener off on a trippy, techno feedback loop, quickly being followed by one of the band's catchiest riffs to date. The chorus is absolutely electric, and once it hits you, you immediately want to jump up and start dancing to the rhythm. I have a feeling this song is going to be a new crowd favorite once they add it to their setlist for upcoming shows. “Cut Back” is probably the most sonically simplistic of all of the new tracks that have been released, but that is honestly what makes it so damn fun. Every rock album needs that energetic and anthemic sing-along track to balance out the record, and this song fits those requirements perfectly.

Look, I’ve been a Marmozets fan from the beginning. I genuinely think that “Move, Shake, Hide” from their first LP is one of the best rock songs ever written, and I never thought anything would ever rival it for me as my favorite. But this new song comes so damn close. With every new track that has been released this year, I am reminded of why I fell in love with this band so many years ago. Marmozets have really shown their fans just how versatile they have become sonically, while still keeping the aggression and heaviness that made them so unique when they first started. Based on what we have heard so far, I don’t think I’m wrong to say this new record might just be one of the best alternative rock albums of the entire year. I am counting down the days until it drops. So mark your calendars, because on May 22nd CO.WAR.DICE will be blasting through our headphones and blessing our car stereos and will most definitely be the soundtrack to my summer this year.
