In 2017, Greg Driscoll and Brendan Eprile both swiped right. While the Tinder app is known for making connections, neither anticipated the musical chemistry that would follow.
Fast forward to today, and the dynamic duo have just dropped their latest anthem, "HOLLYWOOD NIGHTMARE." Read on for more about your new favorite band!
You two met on Tinder in 2017. At what point did you realize that this wasn’t just any connection, but your creative soulmate?
As soon as we met on Tinder, we both bonded over our love of pop-punk music. However, at the beginning of our relationship, we were in very different lanes, with one of us going the singer-songwriter route and the other doing musical theater. It was about a year in that we decided to do a show together, and it was magic. From that day on, we’ve been doing music together ever since.
Your mission statement is "Just because you don’t fit in doesn't mean you don’t belong." Was there a specific moment where you felt the most like "outsiders" and decided to create a safe space for others?
We’ve honestly always felt like outsiders, but it stemmed from feeling like the only gays in the pop-punk scene while at the same time not quite fitting in with traditional gay spaces as well.
How do you feel the current alternative landscape is succeeding (or failing) in representing LGBTQ+ artists?
The scene is definitely becoming a lot more welcoming, but there’s still work to be done. When we went to Warped Tour last year, it was refreshing to see the diversity in the lineup, especially among newer acts. We saw women, people of color, and even a drag queen performing at a festival that 10 years ago only had straight white men on the lineup. However, there is still virtually no other out and proud gay artists in the scene. Wheres our gay rockstars at?!
How do you balance the emo nostalgia of your sound with modern production so it feels fresh rather than just a throwback?
That’s something we constantly grapple with. Luckily, we have an incredible producer that knows what we’re looking for before we even do. At the end of the day, it’s about what sounds good to us. If the final product is a song we can jam out to over and over again, then that’s what makes us happy.
What does your creation process look like, specifically the songwriting split?
We wish we had an exact formula for coming up with songs, but it’s always different. Sometimes we come up with a name or idea before we even have a melody. “Hollywood Nightmare” was a song title we had in the back of our minds for a while, but it wasn’t until we found that melody that everything clicked. It usually works best when one of us comes up with a verse or chorus and then we tweak from there as opposed to starting from a completely blank slate.
What three songs will be mandatory on the BOYR!OT tour bus?
“Riot” by Daisy Grenade - The name says it all
“Domino” by Jesse J. - Brendan’s ultimate hype-up song.
“So What” by P!NK - One of Greg’s favorite songs from his favorite artist.
Now that "HOLLYWOOD NIGHTMARE" is out, what does the rest of 2026 look like for the BOYR!OT revolution?
We’re super excited for the rest of 2026 – it will indeed be a revolution, and “HOLLYWOOD NIGHTMARE” is only the beginning. We can’t say too much more at the moment, but you can expect more music coming out throughout the rest of the spring. If you’re into nostalgic pop-punk, keep us on your radar!
