From Portland, Oregon, comes the atmospheric metalcore band Glasseater. Their sound is packed with heavy riffs and killer breakdowns, blended with their dark and ambient use of synths and harmonies, and even their use of samples. They have carved out a space that is completely their own in the metal and heavy community. Releasing their first single, "Children of Light," in 2024, they are now moving to release their second.
The project started as a hardcore project before progressing into the more atmospheric and synth-driven sound they have now, upon the realization that they wanted a darker sound. Over time, they added in more elements from outside genres, including hip-hop and pop music, as well as mid-2000s pop culture and video game themes.
On the 30th of October, Glasseater. gave us a little treat of their own with the release of their single "Trauma Team"!

"Trauma Team" is heavy from beginning to end, with the least brutal parts coming from the audio samples used, which is a tactic I always adore. No cleans, all brutality, and then a spoken audio clip to break it up is a mathematical formula I can definitely get behind! The vocals and instruments are both equally as heavy in a way that doesn't compete with one another but works hand-in-hand together.
I love a band with great dueling vocalists as well, which Glasseater. and this track both keep in their pocket like a trump card. One vocalist is more rooted in hardcore, while the other is more metalcore-influenced, which deepens their sound and adds another layer to why this single is a banger. Between that and the spacey, futuristic feel of the production, the song's driving force is what makes "Trauma Team" feel like a special song in its own league. The development of the band's sound over time is really showcased in the creation and production of "Trauma Team," making this song somewhat of a band resume all its own.
I believe this band deserves more attention, and I'm happy to help by listening to this banger and telling everyone else about it!
"Following the release of this single, weβve got just a handful of shows left at the end of the year, and then weβre heading straight back into writing and shaping our next EP. Itβs untitled for now, but the goal is to push further into the darkness and keep expanding the world we first opened with A Long Night of Solace & Trauma Team," says the band, so we know that they have even more on the way!
I have fallen in love with Glasseater.'s sound and the "Trauma Team" track along with the rest of their discography. When I find a band that I have no skips for and a sound that I can track through time as it grows and develops, I know I can rely on them.

On November 24th, you can see them live at Dante's opening for the band Heavy//Hitter!
Make sure that you check out Glasseater. and stream their new single "Trauma Team," because if you don't, I'll come blast it outside of your window like John Cusack in the movie Say Anything.
