Blues-rock lovers in DFW were in for a wild night last Friday when Canadian rock duo The Blue Stones rocked the stage at The Echo Lounge. After releasing their first independent record, Metro, earlier this year, fans eagerly awaited the rockers set after a melodic performance by opening band Meltt

Right as the clock struck 8pm, Canadian indie band Meltt took the stage. The quartet started their set with the vibey “Into the Blue.” The band’s chill, atmospheric sound provided a sonic juxtaposition to The Blues Stones energetic blues rock, giving the audience a little taste of everything for the night. Their songs fused psych-rock with a dreamy indie pop sound, making for a very trippy experience. After playing their last song, several of the fans in the front row shouted over the cheers how amazing they had played.

Soon, the house lights went down again, and The Blues Stones made their appearance on the Dallas stage. Opening with a new song, “Your Master,” the band immediately dove into the lively performance that fans were anticipating. With strobing lights, loud guitar riffs, and a driving drumbeat, The Blues Stones wasted no time charging the room with energy. The setlist consisted of many fan favorites, such as “Be My Fire” and “Grim,” while also including many tracks from the newly released album Metro. Regardless of the era of the song, fans sang along enthusiastically to every word.

The band provided the perfect mix of hard-hitting rock bangers with more soulful and laid-back tracks, knowing just when to get the crowd riled up and when to give them a breather. The rock duo’s enthusiasm and passion throughout the set were very endearing to watch as a fan. I always love when you can tell the band members are having just as much fun as the people in the crowd. After a brief intermission, the band came out to play several more fan favorites from their first album. The night ended with the iconic “Shakin’ Off the Rust,” making both the crowd and band members go absolutely wild and creating a very memorable end to a very memorable night.

Even after two months of non-stop touring, The Blue Stones still gave a high-octane performance, and I had the time of my life finally getting to see them after years of following their music. It is currently unannounced when their next tour will be and where, but if they come to your city, make sure to pick up your tickets ASAP! It is a show you won’t soon forget.
