Meet Emmy Mack, self-proclaimed geek, and singer in the Australian Alternative-rock band named RedHook. She is a big fan of movies and cartoons, and mentioned her hidden talent: the ability to quote each and every line of the entire opening sequence of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring; including the Elvish parts!

MSM: For those who don't know you, would you be able to tell us a little bit about yourself?

Emmy: RedHook formed from the ashes of my old 80’s inspired hair metal band and just kind of grew from there into a very different beast! The name comes from a horror story by H.P. Lovecraft that my old drummer was reading, back when we were first trying to think of a name. I really loved the music-themed double meaning combined with the spooky origins of it - I like to incorporate a lot of horror references into our lyrics and visuals because I’m a big geek [laughs].

MSM: What can people expect from your shows?

Emmy: Lots of blood-soaked theatrics, maniacal energy, saxophone boogies and big circle pits, cameos from other artists whenever we can and lots of crowd involvement. We pretty much just try to cram as many big, memorable moments into the live set as possible!

MSM: If you had to pick a different music genre for your band, what would it have been and why?

Emmy: I think we pretty much already picked all the genres in this band! Being just one would be boring [laughs].

MSM: What would your dream venue/city/country to play live be and why?

Emmy: This one’s a bit of a cliché, but I’d have to say Madison Square Garden in NYC - absolutely iconic bucket list venue!

MSM: What are your most meaningful songs and why?

Emmy: All of our songs are super meaningful to me, but I feel like ‘Jabberwocky’ really stands out. It’s probably the single most important thing I’ve done in my life. Writing it was not only instrumental in my own sexual assault healing process; so many other SA survivors have reached out to express how it’s helped them feel seen and given them the courage to tell their own stories since releasing it. That’s the most incredible thing in the whole world.

MSM: What was the first concert you went to?

Emmy: Don’t laugh but I think it was Black Eyed Peas back in 2005 [laughs]. They were rad though !

MSM: Which artist(s) do you like that might shock your fans?

Emmy: Right now, I’m really loving everything Maisie Peters is doing. She’s this UK pop artist who has a really fresh and quirky lyrical take on break-ups and other relatable human experiences. I’m a bit obsessed!

MSM: What is your hidden talent?

Emmy: I can quote the entire opening sequence of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring word for word, complete with Elvish. Told you I was a geek! [laughs].

MSM: We've heard that you are a big movie fan, but what would your favourite cartoons/animation movies be and why?

Emmy: Definitely gonna have to be a bit pre-diddly-ictable and say The Simpsons. That show basically raised me! And about 99% of the time our band communicates only in Simpsons quotes and memes [laughs].
